Three Things To Consider When Choosing Office Cabinets

Posted on

Having cabinets installed in your office is quite exciting. The entire place will have a new look and be more functional when you're done, and your employees will finally have a great place to store their items. But choosing office cabinets is not as simple as it seems. Here are three factors to consider when making that choice.

They need to be very durable.

Cabinets in your home get used by a few people once or twice a day. You may not even use all of your kitchen cabinets daily! But your office cabinets will get a lot of use since they're in a busy space and are accessible to so many people. For this reason, you want to choose ones with sturdy hinges and pulls. Cabinets made from less-durable materials and with less-durable hardware will just break down and begin looking shabby too quickly. Spend a little more to invest in durable, heavy duty cabinets now, and you won't have to replace them so soon. Some marks of durability include:

They should be made to accommodate specific equipment.

If you just buy generic office cabinets and mount them on the wall, chances are good that you'll find a few things -- like perhaps a printer, a set of boxes, or a camera -- that do not fit. So take some time to measure the items you plan to store, and make sure the dimensions of your cabinets accommodate them. You'll also want to plan the placement of such cabinets when having them designed. For example, decide where you want the printer cabinet and measure the space to ensure the cabinet you choose will fit there. This will prevent calamities when the installation team arrives.

Think of office traffic flow when placing your cabinets.

Before you have cabinets placed in a certain spots in the office, think about how their placement will affect traffic flow through the office. For instance, will placing the printer cabinet at the back of the room mean the person whose cubicle is closest will have to deal with other employees walking past them all day long? If so, you may be better off putting the printer cabinet up front. Plan where each cabinet will go before you order it -- and make sure their placement won't disturb anyone.
